Woman sues museum for $50K after tripping on train exhibit

CHICAGO (STMW)  — A woman is suing the Museum of Science and Industry for more than $50,000 claiming unsafe conditions at the museum’s “Pioneer Zephyr” train exhibit caused her to fall and injure herself.

Judy Dekens Groos filed the lawsuit Friday in Cook County Circuit Court, claiming the museum failed to properly warn visitors about a protruding base at the exhibit’s cab door that caused her to trip and fall, according to the suit.

The exhibit features interactive demonstrations and a 20-minute guided tour through various compartments of the Pioneer Zephyr train from 1934, according to the museum’s Web site.

The suit claims Groos has been disabled and continues to suffer because of the accident, but did not specify the nature of her injuries. The suit also claims she lost wages and had to pay “substantial” costs for medical care, and seeks a judgment of more than $50,000 plus court costs.
