SPRINGFIELD —Republican Bill Brady Friday asked Attorney General
Lisa Madigan to investigate campaign cash Gov. Pat Quinn received
from the Teamster’s Union a month ago.
Quinn received $75,000 from the Teamster’s in April.
This week, Quinn vetoed legislation intended to draw conferences
and trade shows to Chicago, a move that could have helped the
union.
Brady, Quinn’s foe in the governor’s race, said, “It’s appears to be
another shameful example of pay-to-play politics,” Brady said in a
statement.
Brady, of Bloomington, asked Madigan to investigate.
It’s unclear, though, if Madigan’s office will get involved.
“The office of the Attorney General will not publicly respond to
campaigns,” said Madigan spokeswoman Robyn Ziegler.
“When we believe an issue requires, we will take appropriate
action,” she said.
On Chicago radio Friday, Quinn said the donation and his veto
weren’t related.
“Not at all,” Quinn said. “Everything I’ve done in my whole life is
based on what I do according to conscience.”
Brady first criticized Quinn over the donation in a news conference
Thursday night about the state budget.
