SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn has agreed with the state’s largest public employee not to lay-off any more state workers.
Lawmakers in Springfield say it doesn’t look good, and may not be good for the next budget. Downstate Republican David Reis says the state has very little spending flexibility, he thinks Quinn’s deal limits that flexibility even more.

But Democrat Frank Mautino said a judge took state layoffs off the table long ago, he thinks Quinn was trying to do what he could with what he had.

Governor Quinn said the deal will save 50-million dollars. But other lawmakers say that’s small potatoes compared to Illinois’ 13-billion dollar deficit.
