Chicago Children’s Museum and Target Kick Off Target Free First Sundays
Weekend day allows more families to enjoy free admission for children
Chicago Children’s Museum (CCM) provided families with some much needed budget relief when Target Free First Sundays kicked off on May 3. All children 15 and under can now receive free admission the first Sunday of every month. This program replaces Target Free First Mondays.
“Historically, we’ve seen more families visiting on Sundays than Mondays,” said President and CEO Jennifer Farrington. “Thanks to this fantastic partnership with Target, more children can experience Chicago Children’s Museum free of charge. In these difficult economic times, it is imperative that the museum’s programming surrounding the arts, culture and family literacy be as accessible as possible to all of Chicago’s children and families.”
Throughout the day, the program Alphapalooza featured 26 Target volunteers each sporting a different letter of the alphabet. Children and families were given alphabet books to collect the stamped “autographs” from each letter. In the Target Family Fun Spot, families relaxed on beanbags and couches, and enjoyed an art activity and free refreshments all courtesy of Target.
An afternoon parade through the museum led up to the highlight of the day—a performance by Miss Lori and the Campus Kids, from “The PBS Kids Preschool Destination.” Miss Lori emphasized the importance of healthy lifestyles and encouraged visitors of all ages to get up and get moving. The day wrapped up with Open Mic Afternoon, where kids took to the stage and displayed their talents of singing, dancing and joke-telling.
Since 2005, the partnership between Target and CCM has helped connect families with fun, hands-on learning. Target Free First Sundays will offer visitors a wider array of programming surrounding arts, educational and culture. Museum hours on Target Free First Sundays will be 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. For a complete list of museum hours, visit CCM’s web site at chicagochildrensmuseum.org.
