City Clerk Miguel del Valle reminds Chicago residents that the deadline for purchasing and displaying the 2009 city vehicle stickers is quickly approaching. Current stickers expired on June 30, with a two-week grace period to purchase and display the new sticker extending to July 15.

Failure to purchase a display the new vehicle city sticker by July 15 could result in a $120 ticket and a purchasing late fee.

This year's Dog Friendly Chicago-themed sticker features several new updates and security enhancements. Residents who live in residential parking zones will find their zone number now printed on their annual vehicle sticker, eliminating the need for a second sticker.

“I want residents to avoid late fees and the possibility of getting a ticket for not purchasing a city sticker. We have hundreds of locations where stickers can be purchased and, of course, the most convenient way to buy your vehicle city sticker is online,” said Clerk del Valle. “Stickers can be purchased at City Hall, City Clerk satellite offices, Department of Revenue substations and more than 300 other locations, including Dominick’s grocery stores, currency exchanges and some banks.”

There are some changes to this year’s stickers. Motorists who live in residential parking zones will find their zone number now printed on their annual vehicle sticker, eliminating the need for a second sticker. As an added security measure, license plate information is now included on most stickers as well. Residents must know their license plate number when purchasing their sticker. Additional security features include new barcode technology and reflective particles in the sticker.

Vehicle sticker and residential parking permit prices remain unchanged from last year. The cost of a passenger vehicle sticker is $75 and larger passenger vehicle stickers are $120. Senior citizens, age 65 and older, are eligible to receive one vehicle sticker for $30. Annual residential zone parking is $25 and residential zone daily guest passes are $8 for 15 passes.

To purchase a sticker in person, residents must bring their driver’s license or renewal form and know their vehicle license plate number. City stickers can be purchased online at ChiCityClerk.com. When ordering online, residents should allow up to 14 days to receive their sticker in the mail.
