Renowned radio personality Delilah visited Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago over the weekend, to meet patients and their families, and to help raise money for their medical care.
“Your life stops when one of your kids gets sick,” she said. “We need to help families going through a crisis.”
Susan Cohn, MD, director of clinical research for pediatric hematology and oncology, took Delilah around Comer, where she met some of the young patients being treated for various cancers. Delilah met 3-year-old Atia Lutarewych on the tour. Atia has been battling leukemia since she was 17 months old, and gets her last treatment in July. “Everything will taste better when Atia is cancer free,” her mother, Laura Lutarewych said.
On her radio program, Delilah highlights children who are fighting for their lives, and has chosen to make Atia Lutarewych her “Brave Child of the Week” in a broadcast on Tuesday June 28th. Atia’s family plans to celebrate her victory over cancer with a party, and has invited her doctors, nurses, and many of the other people from Comer who have helped her along the way.
Delilah’s radio program is syndicated across the country and has nearly 9 million listeners. She is heard locally on 93.9 Lite FM. Many of the families gave Delilah song requests to play on her program, which is part of her signature format.
In addition to being the most listened-to woman on the radio, Delilah is the spokeswoman for Together for Kids, an alliance of children’s hospitals dedicated to building a healthier future for America’s children. The organization raises money for the children’s hospitals in the alliance, to provide better care for kids of all socioeconomic backgrounds around the country.
