Carlos Zambrano begins anger management rehabilitation

CHICAGO (CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM) – Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has completed his anger management sessions and threw 25 pitches Thursday in Mesa, Ariz., as he started his rehabilitation, according to general manager Jim Hendry.

Hendry said the Cubs and Zambrano will get together at some point next week and decide where he’ll continue his rehab in the minor leagues.

Zambrano was suspended without pay for three games and then was put on the restricted list after a dugout tirade on June 25 at U.S. Cellular Field.

After surrendering four runs in the first inning, Zambrano stormed into the dugout and began shouting before getting in the face of teammate Derrek Lee. Manager Lou Piniella sent Zambrano home early that night, and he was quickly suspended.

After negotiations with Major League Baseball, the players’ union, the Cubs and Zambrano’s agent, the pitcher was required to seek anger management counseling.

After struggling in the rotation, the Cubs moved Zambrano to the bullpen, but not before moving him back to the rotation. He is 3-6 with a 5.66 ERA in 22 games this season.
