SCHWARB-O-METER Headed to Chicago History Museum

The original SCHWARB-O-METER, which made its debut at Game 1 of the World Series in Cleveland and continued to track Kyle Schwarber’s slugging % at Games 2, 4, 6 & 7 of the World Series, will be donated to the Chicago History Museum Wednesday morning. The museum has an original SHAWON-O-METER in its collection, which was donated 25 years ago. Chief Curator Libby Mahoney will be accepting the SCHWARB-O-METER on behalf of the CHM.

Cub fans of a certain age may remember the SHAWON-O-METER, which tracked the batting average of shortstop Shawon Dunston from 1989 through the end of his career. Shawon wore the #12 his entire career as does Kyle now. The SCHWARB-O-METER has the same dimensions of the original SHAWON-O-METER, down to the individual panel sizes.

The announcement that Kyle was cleared to play in the World Series caught most Cub fans by surprise. The excitement surrounding his return was palpable, as his ability to bat for power, average and on-base percentage is incredible for a player his age. His historic and triumphant return provided some amazing fodder for stats-hungry fans:

– Led the World Series with a .412 batting average
– Led the World Series with a .500 on base %
– Hit safely in all four World Series games as DH
– 1st position player in MLB history to get 1st hit of the season in the World Series

With the Cubs down 0-1 in the Series, Kyle sparked the Cubs in the critical Game 2, going 2-4 with a walk and 2 RBI. During that game FOX showed the SCHWARB-O-METER, with Joe Buck and John Smoltz getting a chuckle. Buck said “Stats in the seats” and continued saying it was the same meter seen at Wrigley Field through the years.
