Yankees 1B Teixeira leaves game with leg injury

NEW YORK – Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira has left Game 4 of the AL championship series with an apparent leg injury.

Teixeira grabbed at his right hamstring while running to first on a fifth-inning grounder that Texas third baseman Michael Young tried to turn into a double play.

Teixeira, mired in a playoff slump, stumbled near the bag and slid awkwardly into first base. He was safe on a wide throw, but stayed down with his right leg extended as a trainer and manager Joe Girardi came out to check on him.

Teixeira walked gingerly off the field with assistance and down the dugout steps before heading toward the clubhouse. Nick Swisher moved from right field to play first base.
