District 205 finalizes cuts, partially retains elementary Spanish
District 205 will construct its 2010-11 budget with $2.28 million in spending cuts, but will keep some elementary Spanish instruction after the Board meeting Tuesday, March 9, evening.
Connie Chester, World Language Curriculum Coordinator at 205, said she had been working since January to see how the popular language program would fit into upcoming District budgets.
Three full-time elementary Spanish teachers will be eliminated, and 2nd grade students will no longer receive Spanish education for a projected cost savings of $245,000 in 2010-11.
Third-grade students will have 15 minutes of Spanish three times a week, while 4th and 5th graders will meet twice a week for a 30 minute Spanish class.
The World Language Program was to be wholly considered for elimination as of a Feb. Full Press Release…
