Thanks to all of the supporters of Chicago 2016 in the city and around the world!

Thanks also to the International Olympic Committee for giving us the opportunity to compete against these world-class cities on the world stage.

While we were not fortunate enough to be selected as Host City, Chicago has won in many other ways.

The city and nation united behind our bid.

The international competition raised Chicago’s profile as a world-class city.

Countless businesses and philanthropic organizations helped stage events that inspired young people to engage in sport.

And the bid’s legacy organization, World Sport Chicago, will continue to reach thousands of youth in the years to come.

As a direct result of the bid, more than 300,000 Chicago youth have already begun to realize the benefits of the Olympic Movement through activities and educational programs.

Be sure to continue to visit World Sport Chicago to find out more about the lasting positive legacy our bid has created for the city.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Chicago 2016 over the years!

A delegation from Chicago 2016 will make a presentation at the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) General Assembly held on July 6-7 in Abuja, Nigeria.

The delegation includes Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Patrick G. Ryan, World Sport Chicago President Michael Conley, United States International Olympic Committee member Anita De Frantz and United States Olympic Committee First Vice President of International Relations Bob Ctvrtlik. Conley, De Frantz and Ctvrtlik are Olympic medalists.

“We welcome every opportunity to share our vision for the Games and connect with IOC members who will vote in a few short months to select the 2016 Host City,” said Ryan. “We feel our plan will deliver a extraordinary Games experience for athletes, spectators and visitors, and during our presentation we hope to convey Chicago’s strong desire to be an Olympic city to the many IOC members from the African countries in attendance.”

During the presentation, Chicago will share its plans to create a compact and athlete-friendly Olympic and Paralympic Games in the heart of the city. Many of the proposed competition venues are located in parklands and along the shores of Lake Michigan, near the city’s world-class museums, fine restaurants, hotels, shopping and entertainment.

The location of Chicago’s proposed Olympic Village, just south of downtown along the lakefront, puts 90 percent of athletes within 15 minutes or less of their competition venues. Of the 27 sport venues, 22 already exist or would be temporary in nature as part of a plan that minimizes costs and environmental impact.

The IOC will select the Host City for the 2016 Olympic Games on October 2 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

For the third consecutive year, Chicago 2016 and World Sport Chicago (WSC) are showcasing Olympic and Paralympic sport at the Taste of Chicago. Visitors of all ages can take part in interactive demonstrations and clinics led by elite athletes and Olympians and Paralympians.

The Taste of Chicago is the largest festival in Chicago, with millions of visitors from across the city, suburbs, country and world attending. Held along the lakefront in Grant Park, the city’s “front yard,” the festival takes place in the heart of the Chicago and is now in its 29th year. More than 50 restaurants are participating in the Taste this year, offering more than 200 menu items highlighting Chicago’s diverse culinary community.

“The Taste of Chicago is not only a celebration of food, but also a celebration of the city. Chicago welcomes millions of visitors and residents over the course of the ten-day event, showcasing the beauty of the lakefront and downtown area, as well as the diversity of its communities,” said Patrick Ryan, chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016. “Just as food brings people together, so does sport. Chicago 2016 is proud to share the values of the Olympic Movement with the world and invites people to become part of the city’s bid.”

Visitors to the Taste can show their enthusiasm for Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games by pushing a button that records the number of people who support the bid. For those looking to learn more about the bid, Chicago 2016 has an information booth featuring details about its venue plan and bid videos created to educate members of the International Olympic Committee during various presentations.

Those who stop by can pick up a Chicago 2016 wristband, as well as informational brochures and information about volunteering with Chicago 2016. Approximately 500 volunteers will be in attendance during the event, promoting the bid and cheering on those who participate in the interactive sports area.

The interactive sports areas will highlight Olympic and Paralympic sports such as track, gymnastics, fencing, archery, judo, team handball, sit volleyball and others. Local sports clubs and organizations will be on hand to encourage kids to learn about new sports and to offer information on where kids can get involved with sports in their area.

Located in the Taste Sports Pavilion (between Columbus, Balbo and Michigan), the Chicago 2016 and WSC booth will be open daily from 11am-6pm, with interactive activities taking place throughout the day and special athlete meet-and-greets from 1-2pm.
