PARIS (AFP) – France coach Laurent Blanc on Wednesday expressed his regret over the suspensions handed to four of his players for their roles in France’s World Cup fiasco. Nicolas Anelka was handed an 18-match ban by the disciplinary commission of the French Football Federation (FFF) on Tuesday, with Jeremy Toulalan, Franck Ribery and Patrice Evra banned for one, three and five games respectively.

The commission also handed out a five-match ban to World Cup captain Patrice Evra, three matches to vice-captain Franck Ribery and one match to Lyon midfielder Jeremy Toulalan.
