Lawmakers: Quinn Deal May Impact Next Budget
SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn has agreed with the state’s largest public employee not to lay-off any more state workers. Lawmakers in Springfield say it doesn’t look good, and may not be good for the next budget. Downstate Republican David Reis says the state has very little spending flexibility, he thinks Quinn’s deal limits that flexibility even more.

Britain up taxes, cuts spending in ‘bloodbath’ budget (AFP)
LONDON (AFP) – Britain has launched a package of higher taxation and spending cuts termed a “bloodbath” budget by some of the press who warned failure could bring down the government. Many commentators were shocked by the extent of the cuts Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne announced Tuesday that included a freeze on public sector pay and slashing benefit payments.

LONDON (AFP) – Britain on Tuesday launched an assault on its mountain of debt as its new coalition government set out plans to raise taxes and slash public spending by 17 billion pounds (25 billion dollars). Finance minister George Osborne announced that he would slap a levy on banks, ramp up taxation on goods and services, freeze public sector pay and slash benefits spending in an attempt to curb the huge public deficit.
