BP chairman summoned to Obama meeting over oil spill (AFP)
WASHINGTON (AFP) – BP’s chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg has been summoned to a meeting with President Barack Obama next Wednesday to answer questions about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, an official letter said. Svanberg, a Swede, was invited to the meeting on June 16 with other company officials, but the White House did not demand to see BP CEO Tony Hayward, who Obama has said he would fire, if he could, over flippant comments.

Mexican prison warden dismembered
Mexico City, Mexico (CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM) — A prison warden in the Mexican state of Morelos was abducted as he reported to work Saturday morning and his dismembered body was found later in four locations in the city of Cuernavaca, the government-run Notimex agency reported. The warden was identified as Luis Navarro Castaneda, director of the Atlacholoaya prison.
‘Top kill’ fails, BP moves on ‘to next option’
Robert, Louisiana (CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM) — Three attempts to pump mud and 16 tries to stuff solid material into a breached Gulf of Mexico oil well failed to stop the flow, top BP executives said Saturday, and engineers and executives with the oil giant have decided to “move on to the next option.” That option: Place a custom-built cap to fit over the “lower marine riser package,” BP chief operation officer Doug Suttles said. BP crews were already at work Saturday to ready the materials for that option, he said.
