She says:

As an ad agency art buyer for nine years, it was time for a new chapter and I am now a producer, available for print and video assignments.

I feel the background I have in advertising gives me a unique view, that varies from traditional producers. I have the insights into both agency and client concerns, understanding budget and timing from both perspectives.

I have built up an impressive list of vendors including video production houses, still photographers, location scouts, hair & make up artists etc. I hope to expand my freelance work in LA soon. http://lauraroeper.com/

The unique nature of the business also has allowed me time to do my own fine art, curate and work on my new blog, http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/permanent-canvas in conjuncton with ChicagoNow.

CHICAGO, Feb. 16, 2011 /CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM/ — Chicago magazine is known for its expert opinion on dining, culture, fashion—and now—beautiful people. For the March issue, Chicago‘s editors scoured the city in search of Chicagoland’s best-looking people. Using a subjective and utterly nonscientific process, they came up with the definitive list of the “50 Most Beautiful Chicagoans.” Among the list of lookers are Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Sharp, Grammy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, and entrepreneur Bill Rancic.

The issue, which boasts two alternating covers, hits newsstands Thursday. This must-read edition features in-depth Q&As, profiles, and gorgeous photography of this year’s list of eye-catchers, including chef Jess De Guzman, anchor Anna Davlantes, and restaurateur Ty Fujimura. Plus, Hudson reveals who she thinks is beautiful, why she decided to move back to Chicago, and her life as a mom. The group will be honored at a cocktail reception on Tuesday, March 1st at L20.

“We have never done anything like this before, so half the fun was figuring it out as we went along,” says Richard Babcock, Chicago’s editor. “Judging from the flood of nominations we received, Chicago does not want for attractive men and women.”

The March issue also features U-Turn, a look at the University of Chicago after decades of declining enrollment and diminished status. Today, the comeback college has reinvented itself and is a top choice among the country’s brightest would-be collegians.

Elsewhere in the March issue of Chicago:

Fashion: Fashion director Stacey Jones visited the runways of Paris and New York to track down the must-have trends for spring 2011. Sultry seventies-inspired styles, bold colors, and dazzling prints make the shopping list.

Society: Move over Mark Zuckerberg, when it comes to making connections, Chicago entrepreneur and philanthropist Neal Zucker is the paradigm of gracious chic.

Chicago editor Richard Babcock, managing editor Shane Tritsch, and other members of the magazine staff are available for on-air interviews about stories in the March issue.

About Chicago magazine

Chicago magazine is the largest monthly city magazine in the country, with a circulation of more than 150,000. In addition, the company publishes Chicago Home + Garden magazine. Chicago magazine has been honored with many awards, including, in 2004, the most prestigious—the Ellie award for General Excellence in its circulation category, bestowed by the American Society of Magazine Editors.

Domino’s nixes the pizza props and topping tweezers for real food photography

ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 5 /CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM/ — Domino’s Pizza (NYSE: DPZ), the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, is continuing its honest, transparent way of communicating with customers by walking down a new avenue of authenticity: food photography.

In an effort to display Domino’s Inspired Pizza as authentically as possible, all Domino’s national advertising pieces will feature food photography without the fancy food artistry or fake food touch-ups.

Whether it be a commercial on TV or an advertisement in the local paper, the landmark advertising approach promises that all product shots of the Inspired Pizza have been untouched by stylists or model makers typically found on food photography shoots.

“How many times have you wondered why the products you buy don’t look as good in person as they do in TV ads?” said Russell Weiner, Domino’s Pizza chief marketing officer. “That’s because most of the time companies use artificial techniques to make their products look better than they do when served to you in person. At Domino’s, we’re proud of the way our pizza looks – and tastes – right out of the oven.”

The new approach to food photography follows the same line of transparency that began in late 2009 with the launch of the company’s “Pizza Turnaround” advertising campaign – sparking critical acclaim from media, and overwhelmingly positive consumer response to the pizza itself. The campaigns following the launch of the pizza have, in one way or another, been featured in almost every major media outlet, as well as more than 1,000 local TV affiliates.

“It’s a natural progression for us now to take this step,” Weiner continued. “If we’re going to be real and honest about the taste of the product, we want to be as authentic as possible about how it looks. And there’s nothing more mouthwatering than a Domino’s pizza straight out of the oven.”

Also part of the latest chapter in transparency is Domino’s launch of an online component called Show Us Your Pizza, inviting consumers to submit their best natural Domino’s food photography to earn one of four prizes of $500.

Customers can visit ShowUsYourPizza.com to learn about Domino’s Pizza’s “photo promise,” which prohibits any artificial manipulation of the product during shooting, among other rules. The best amateur food photographers who adhere to the photo promise might also have their shots featured in future Domino’s advertisements.

OPEN TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 48 CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES (AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA), 18 YEARS AND OLDER WHO DID NOT PURCHASE ANY EQUIPMENT FOR PURPOSES OF ENTERING THE CONTEST. VOID IN AK, HI AND WHERE PROHIBITED. Enter Contest 6/28/10 through 7/26/10; judging to occur 7/27/10 through 8/15/10.

Studio Acquires North American Distribution Rights To Fact-Based Action Drama Starring Gerard Butler

Fall 2011 Release Planned — Principal Photography Begins In July

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 21 /CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM/ — LIONSGATE® (NYSE: LGF), the leading next generation studio, today announced that it has acquired North American distribution rights to the fact-based action drama MACHINE GUN PREACHER, directed by Marc Forster (QUANTUM OF SOLACE).

The film is the studio’s first collaboration with Forster since the Oscar®-winning MONSTER’S BALL. Gerard Butler (LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, 300) stars as Reverend Sam Childers, known as “the machine gun preacher.”

Michelle Monaghan (EAGLE EYE, GONE BABY GONE) co-stars as his wife, Lynn Childers; Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (THE RUNAWAYS, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD) portrays Childers’s best friend, Donnie; Madeline Carroll (THE SPY NEXT DOOR, SWING VOTE) plays Childers’s daughter, Paige; Kathy Baker (LAST CHANCE HARVEY, STREET SMART) plays Childers’s mother, Daisy Childers; and Souleymane Sy Savane (GOODBYE SOLO, “Damages”) plays Deng, Childers’s right hand in Africa. The screenwriter is Jason Keller. Forster will produce under his Apparatus shingle alongside Robbie Brenner; Gary Safady and Craig Chapman of Kaushi Entertainment; and Deborah Giarratana of GG Filmz. Executive producers are Myles Nestel of Merlina Entertainment, Brad Simpson of Apparatus, Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel and Louise Rosner. The announcement was made by Joe Drake, Lionsgate Chief Operating Officer and Motion Picture Group President, and Mike Paseornek, Lionsgate President of Motion Picture Production.

Principal photography for MACHINE GUN PREACHER is scheduled to begin on July 5th in Detroit and South Africa. Lionsgate plans to release the film in fall 2011.

Said Paseornek, “MACHINE GUN PREACHER combines a fascinating, action-packed story and unique characters with great talent on both sides of the camera. We’re delighted to be back in business with our friend Marc, one of the most gifted and versatile filmmakers working today. And Gerard Butler is the ideal actor to capture the strength, complexity and charisma of this film’s real-life hero, Sam Childers.”

Said Brenner, “When I learned about Sam Childers, I thought, ‘here is a man who is making a difference, defying the odds and not just talking about what he believes but actually doing it.’ Seldom do you find a story that is gripping and relatable but is also about something bigger. Here was a movie that begged to be made. Jason Keller wrote an exceptional screenplay, and I can think of no one better able to depict this story than my dear friend, Marc Forster.”

Said Safady, “I am honored to play an integral part in telling the amazing story of Sam Childers. I think this is the perfect movie as a foray into the film business, as it is both commercial and topical. In today’s society, stories like his are rare and this is one that deserves to be told.”

Said Forster, “I am thrilled to be working again with Lionsgate. They have a keen understanding for the complexity of the material and will give our film the care and guidance it needs to expose the story to the masses.”

The deal was negotiated for Lionsgate by Rob McEntegart, Senior Executive Vice President, Motion Picture Group, and by Merlina Entertainment’s Nestel, on behalf of the filmmakers. Forster, Keller, Butler and Shannon are represented by CAA. Forster and Keller are represented by Guymon Casady of Management 360. Forster is represented by attorney Linda Lichter of Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman.

SYNOPSIS – MACHINE GUN PREACHER

After renouncing his outlaw ways, Sam Childers embarks on a spiritual path, becoming a warrior for the desperate and helpless children in a war-torn country in Africa.

Human Rights Program exhibit focuses attention on land mine survivors

The University’s Human Rights Program is launching a photography series aimed at exploring how photography is used in human rights discourse.

The first exhibit in the Looking at Human Rights series will feature Canadian photographer V. Tony Hauser’s portraits of children who survived land mine injuries.

Taken in Siem Reap, Cambodia, in May 2006, the 16 stark, life-sized portraits are intended to humanize the continued suffering caused by armed conflicts across the globe.

Hauser will introduce his exhibition, Living with Land Mines, at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at Harper Commons‘ Stuart Reading Room. The images will be on display through Winter Quarter.

Upcoming exhibits in the series will include photographs made by youth in a project in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as a human rights photo competition open to UChicago students.

A UChicago Arts Council grant has funded the series, and fourth-year Jasmine Heiss has curated it, with the support of the Human Rights Program.

Hauser’s work was selected because it illustrates the potential of the medium to bring marginalized groups and individuals to public attention. The children in his photographs live at the Cambodia Land Mine Museum, which also serves as a rescue center for land mine amputee children.

It provides a dormitory and a school, and has a medical clinic, rehabilitation center and a training facility for land mine accident prevention and safety.

“I purposely chose to isolate them from their natural surroundings,” says Hauser, who photographed the children using a 4 x 5-inch view camera, Polaroid film and a seamless canvas backdrop.

“I hoped this would elevate them and, at the same time, reveal my admiration for their strength.”

Living with Land Mines is the first exhibit to be displayed in the recently revamped Harper Commons, which is working to build a permanent and circulating artwork and photography collection as part of its reprogrammed space.

This event is free and open to the public. Stuart Reading Room is located at 1116 E. 59th St.

Exhibition of Contemporary Photographs Document the “Burnham Plan” Created for Manila, Philippines Sept. 5, 2009 through January 10, 2010

<img class="size-medium wp-image-1811" title="tim-long" src="http://chicagopressrelease.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/tim-long-300x199.jpg" alt="Tim Long, Manila 2008, 2008.
As Chicago celebrates the Centennial of its Burnham Plan, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs presents an exhibition of photographs taken by architectural and landscape photographer Tim Long.

In a month long residency in 2008, Long documented the buildings and streets of Manila built according to its own Burnham Plan.

Two years before he began work on the “Plan of Chicago,” Daniel Burnham drew plans to modernize Manila, the capitol of the Philippine Islands, and Baguio, a nearby small city.

Though shifting political and economic interests in the U.S. eventually disrupted the projects, these plans continued to influence architects and city planners, even building codes, well into the 1940s.

The greatest concentration of Burnham’s legacy can still be found in Metro Manila, an urban continuum of more than 10 million people. Clustered around the large city park that Burnham designed are several graceful Beaux Arts buildings built by his protégés. Typical of Burnham’s “City Beautiful” plans for San Francisco and Chicago, street systems emanate outward from the park to eventually fade into the fabric of a remarkably chaotic urban landscape.

Tim Long: Daniel Burnham’s Enduring Vision for the Phillipines will be on view from Sept. 5, 2009, to January 10, 2010, in the City Gallery at the Historic Water Tower, 806 N. Michigan Avenue. The City Gallery is open seven days a week, Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 6:30 pm, and Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. The gallery is closed on all holidays. Admission is free.

A public opening reception for the artist will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, from 5-7 pm.

Tim Long: Daniel Burnham’s Enduring Vision for the Philippines is presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs. The project is supported in part by Columbia College Chicago and a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.

Established in 1999, the City Gallery in the Historic Water Tower is a unique exhibition space dedicated to presenting Chicago-themed photographic work and other photo-based work by Chicago photographers and artists. For more information on Tim Long: Daniel Burnham’s Enduring Vision for the Philippines and other Department of Cultural Affairs exhibitions, the public can visit explorechicago.org or call 312-744-6630.
