Later primary bill heads to governor
After a poor showing in February, state lawmakers say it’s time to move primary elections back to where they used to be.
The House voted 114-1 today for Senate Bill 355, which would move the primary election date to the third Tuesday in March — where it was held since the 1970s.
The Senate already has approved the idea, so now it goes to Gov. Pat Quinn.
Lawmakers approved moving the primary to the first Tuesday in February 2007 so Illinois would have more say in the presidential primary election, which helped President Barack Obama. Full Press Release…
