SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –   Some exceptional young people from the Springfield area who volunteer their time to serve others have been selected as this year’s Twilight Parade Grand Marshals.  The 2011 Grand Marshals were selected for their commitment to serving others through the Serve Illinois Commission, whose mission is to improve Illinois communities by enhancing traditional volunteer activities and supporting national service programs.

In a spirited conversation that recently took place at the UChicago charter school Woodlawn Campus, two high school students practiced their debate skills as they took differing positions on the role of military troops on the Japanese island of Okinawa. “Okinawa has a large American base and people have protested having it on the island,” said junior A’Shonti McHenry.
