Daley defends Cohen’s right to run
In a surprise to some democrats, Mayor Richard Daley today said he would not join the call for controversial Lieutenant Governor Nominee Scott Lee Cohen to step down. Daley called the whole Cohen situation a “constitutional dilemma,” but said neither he, nor any newspaper, nor anyone in Illinois could ask Cohen to resign just because they “don’t like him anymore.” Daley said the people made their choice when Cohen won the nomination in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.
