SEOUL (AFP) – A senior US official said Friday he was “very confident” the G20 summit would embrace a communique providing strong support for growth, rebalancing of the global economy and exchange rate cooperation. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity as the summit went down to the wire in Seoul, said the final statement would contain even tougher language than a finance ministers’ statement issued last month.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has spoken with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak about efforts to settle a stalled free trade agreement ahead of next week’s Group of 20 economic summit in Seoul. The White House said Tuesday that Obama told Lee that he wants to “use the next week to make progress toward an agreement.” Tuesday was election day, and big Republican wins could improve Obama’s chance of passing the trade deal.

Mom of Dead Twins Weeps, Bond at $350k
Chicago – A judge ordered 21-year-old Regina Lofton held on $350,000 bond after she was charged with endangerment following the death of her twin 1-year-old girls Kimari and Kamora, who were found dead in their Far South Side home Thursday evening. Lofton was charged Friday afternoon with two counts of endangering the life of a child, a Class 3 felony, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.
