Senate rejects Nation of Islam follower for human rights commission

May 17, 2012 By Stephanie Fryer | Illinois Statehouse News SPRINGFIELD — Illinois senators Thursday rejected the reappointment of a co-founder of a group dedicated to a former Nation of Islam leader to the state’s Human Rights Commission . Elijah Muhammad was a leader of black Muslims, and the coalition runs a website about his beliefs and involvement with the Nation of Islam.

Local Restaurant Chain Owners Charged with Cheating the IRS of Millions of Dollars

PHILADELPHIA—Robert Mattei, Leo McGlynn, Brian Welsh, Joseph Donnelly, and Elena Ruiz—the owners and managers of the Nifty Fifty’s restaurant chain—were charged today by information in a tax evasion conspiracy that cheated the Internal Revenue Service by failing to properly account for more than $15 million in gross receipts. The case was announced by United States Attorney Zane David Memeger, IRS Acting Special Agent in Charge Akeia Connor with the Criminal Investigation Division, and FBI Special Agent in Charge George C.

SPRINGFIELD, MO—Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that the owners of a Lebanon, Mo., trucking company and one other person were indicted by a federal grand jury today for their roles in a conspiracy to defraud Tracker Marine, a Springfield, Mo.-based manufacturer of boats and trailers sold throughout North America. James Keith Ivey, 51, and his wife, Melinda Kay Ivey, 42, both of Lebanon, and Paul Ray Hunting, 39, formerly of Lebanon, were charged in a 24-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Springfield.
