TOKYO – Japan’s growth accelerated in the July-September quarter thanks to robust consumer spending, offering a rare piece of positive economic news that is likely to prove fleeting. All signs indicate that the uptick is temporary, and momentum will almost certainly fade as slowing exports and a persistently strong yen take their toll on the world’s No.

The Labor Department reported that 151,000 nonfarm jobs were created in October, much better than expected, adding the first jobs since May although the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.6 percent for the third month.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States saw a mini jobs boom in October, snapping a four-month streak of payroll losses but too weak to dent the high unemployment rate, official data showed Friday. The Labor Department reported a surprising 151,000 nonfarm jobs were added in October, while the jobless rate as expected remained unchanged at 9.6 percent for the third month in a row.
