Chicago Innovation Mentors receive $60,000 grant from Chicago Biomedical Consortium

Less than nine months after its launch, the Chicago Innovation Mentors (CIM) has received a $60,000 grant from the Chicago Biomedical Consortium, which is supported by the Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust. “This speaks very loudly for CIM in that we can go from concept in November to attracting our first outside funder just nine months later,” says Keith Terry, executive director of CIM.

Lycopene, a red pigment that gives tomatoes and certain other fruits and vegetables their color, could help prevent prostate cancer, especially in African American men, according to new research at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Lycopene is a potent antioxidant, and some studies have shown that diets rich in tomatoes may lower the risk of certain cancers, especially those of the prostate, lung and stomach.
