CUB: Nine out of Ten Smart Phone Customers on Bad Data Deals
CHICAGO , July 25, 2011 /CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM/ — In the wake of Verizon Wireless’ recent move to kill unlimited data plans, CUB will release an analysis suggesting that nine out of 10 smart phone users are stuck on oversized data plans and could be wasting up to $278 in unused data each year. At a news conference, CUB Executive Director David Kolata will announce the findings, release a new CUB guide to help consumers protect themselves from bad data deals, and list specific recommendations on how the wireless industry could better serve its customers.

FCC fines Verizon Wireless $25M for spurious fees (AP)
NEW YORK – Verizon Wireless has agreed to pay a fine of $25 million and at least $52.8 million in refunds to customers who inadvertently racked up data charges on their phones over the last three years, federal regulators said Thursday. The Federal Communications Commission said the fine is the largest in its history.
